Hello everyone
I'd like to wish everyone at Elrick primary School a merry Christmas and a happy New Year. We have really enjoyed communicating with you over the last term and a half. It has been fun and we've learnt lots of things too. We hope to share more of the things that we do at Solway and find out more about Scotland and your local area. hi Callum. I saw the camp photos.I thought that they were good. Ihave been camping before in the summer holidays this year.it was fun but it was kinda boring because there was no tv no laptop or any thing and i missed my little sister. i heard you,me and jay will still be e pals after your summer holidays and our new year . so i will see you after your summer holidays and our new year. we are off for 2 weeks and you are off for 6 weeks. so you are off for 4 more weeks than us boo hoo .and we will get heaps of presents in the 2 weeks to play with our new things wen get and i will be getting a white lg cookie and may be a 42 inch tv for my room and my little sister will get a handy manny tool box with 7 tools and 1 handy manny and a inside house for ellie to go in. it has thing for her to learn numbers 1 to 10 and the alpha bet. so when she goes in in to primary 1 she will know thing like sums and the alpha bet? and maybe a play phoneand a dolls house for her to play with her dolls. so she has something to play in. one day i will put a picture of her in to the blog so you and your class can see a picture of her and you can see how cute she is.she is so so cute and she looks like me a lot.

Hi Cairan,
I have just been on a year 5 camp and and stayed at this place called mount holds worth.
We slept in tents and i slept with Mackenzie and her dad Corrie.
We had a BQQ tea and after that we went for a torch walk at night.
We went to sleep really late and everyone else stayed up too.
In the morning every one got up at 6:00 and had breakfast then went for a 3 hour walk and we came to a swing bridge and most people went across then we went back across and got a chocolate.We went back to have lunch and then we went in the river and it was FREEZING!!

Hi,

I just finished a recording yesterday of how I felt when I was jumping off the rock at camp. And the cool thing was we did it with GarageBand which is like the Ultimate recording software. I asked Mr Hornby if he could put it on the blog (because it was on his computer we did it) so look out for it.

sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you.
Everybody hogs the computer one person in particular!
Anyway because I am a year 6 I am leaving Solway this year. We are only a primary school so I am going on to a 2 year Intermediate school called M.I.S
Masterton Intermediate School.
I am graduating on the 10th of December.
On Friday the 27th we went to M.I.S for our orientation day.
I got put into room 9 with Mrs Roberts.
The only Solway person in my class was Erin.
Erin's big sister was in my class her name is Anya and Amber was also in the same class. They are both ex-Solway pupils.
In the weekend I went to Kendyll's house. We went down and saw the piglets. She lives on the farm.
She broke her arm a couple weeks ago and she went in the pool. But she didn't go under.
I was jumping off the diving board and wetting her brother that has pneumonia.
We had blue jelly and Bacon strips with a cold milk Milo for breakfast.
We went down and watched the boys play on the motorbikes. The were making the jumps more sturdier. Me and Kendyll went down and saw the female cows that want to make babies with the male bulls.
We also went for a walk over to holly's house and something bad happened, Her sister Grace was screaming and saying that she broke her ankle but she was exaggerating she only sprained her ankle.

On Thursday night at 5:00 the year fives went to Mount holds worth for camp.
We set up our tents and had a big BBQ dinner there was then we got changed into warm clothes and got our torches then we went for a walk.After supper Tayla jumped out at us we were screaming.In the morning we had a big breakfast then went for a long walk we crossed a massive swing bridge it looked scary but it wasn't when you were on it.
We came back and had lunch then went for a swim in the river it was FREEZING!!! then after that we went back home.

• Hi Callum,
• First- I don't want to put the same picture in twice so I am telling you Pic no.3 in blog entry "back from camp" is me jumping off the rock into the river. Camp was fun. We had a barbecue for literally every meal (in order: tea, breakfast, lunch(as we arrived at night)).

We walked to the first swing bridge on the Atiawhakatu Track which took about an hour. It is "bring a friend" day and we are doing our Argentinab Presentations. I am also making ice-cream for that as part of my "Cooking Tech" badge. Cooking Tech badge is where I earn a badge for completing activities to do with cooking.

Back from camp

The year 5s came back from our overnight camp today. We were really lucky with the weather although we had a cool night. We all brought tents and slept in them. We had a barbeque tea last night and went for a 45 min night walk. Today we went for a walk to a swing bridge and when we got back we packed up the tents , had lunch and the kids went for a swim. Callum (in Scotland)

Hi Callum,

Yesterday I went on a trip to Palmerston North with my ODC Gifted and Talented group to a theatre called "Centrepoint".
We played some theatre sports and put on little plays with some costumes. Another guy called Jack and I went up to the lighting and sound control desk which was fun- there they control volume levels, the sounds that come through the speakers, and all the different light level and when the lights come on.
We also came on a nice, new bus which had a toilet and a TV and DVD player (except we couldn't use them because the toilet was locked and no-one wanted to ask the driver if we could use any of them).
We are doing slides with photos from our time at Solway for a Powerpoint at the Year 6 Graduation- the Year 6 ones will get shown and the Year 5s are doing them for next year.
What are you learning about at school? What are you doing for the topic? We are studying Ways We Use Water and might be doing a Presentation to the BOT on ways we could save water at the school so they could decide to do our ideas or not.

Hello everyone

We haven't made as many replies to your fantastic comments on our instructions as I would have liked. I was out of the class today doing maths (numeracy) testing. We are also making a power point slide to show at the end of year graduation. The slide has pictures from around the school. All but the year 5 children (8 of them) are leaving Solway school at the end of the year. Most people are going to Masterton Intermediate School MIS, but others are going to Chanel, St Matthews Collegiate and Solway College.
On Friday the children are going to MIS to visit for the morning. All the year 5s in the school are going on an overnight camp to Mount Holdsworth.
We are finishing school on the 18th December and we will be away for 6 weeks , this is our summer holiday.

The nearest holidays we have are the end of year holidays
which are a couple of weeks away.
We are still doing our competition with the Yoghurt company (Fresh,n Fruity, Remember?)
and we are in the first stages (getting crew) for a Claymation (stop-motion animation with plasticine models) to promote- the Prize is $10,000 for the class to share- if everybody gets some then we'll only end up with like $15 each.
I am doing the School Newspaper for about a third of my week at school now.

We've had another busy week, as Callum has mentioned him and a small crew have started an online newspaper from a kids point of view - Kids-i. It is pretty cool and features things that are happening around our school. There is even a tribute page to me as it was my birthday today, quite humbling really. We are growing 8 strawberries in groups of 3. They have to keep a grower's diary and record the number of leaves, flowers and fruit etc. I'll send some more info about the competition, it would be really neat to have your input designing posters and it might help our chances of winning!! This is the picture of Alex which was in the paper.
We had a frost this moning, very unusual for this time of year, up to 17 in the day, my tomatoes got frosted!!

Thanks for messages. The children will see them tom (Thurs). Are the whole class involved with the fresh and fruity yoghurt comp? As we are going to be designing adverts and focussing on layout and presentation maybe our class could desing a poster? I will also be sharing a 'jingle' with them so this is another option too? If this sounds ok could you give us some more details? Perhaps their jingle could be typed on google docs and we could take photos of the posters?
