I just read Mr Hornby's blog "it is named after the great Kauri tree that grows north of Auckland (AKA Northland). That is where we went on holiday. The name of the forest is the Waipoua Kauri Forest, and even the tree has a name, Tane Mahuta.
You have to walk up a track to get to Tane. Next up is the Kauri Gum (that red stuff).
This is the sign at the tree. And last but not least, Tane itself.
